Jefferson’s Rolling Over in His Grave

The Library of Congress announced — actually, they Tweeted — on Wednesday that they will soon archive every public Tweet since March 2006. I’m not sure Jefferson, who donated his collection of books to replace the library that the friggin Brits burned, would approve.

Then again, maybe he would. And maybe I should stop being an info snob. Twitter’s not all that different than Usenet, which Google archives. Somebody’s gotta do it. And, as with Usenet, there are some interesting threads hidden in that ocean of data.

Twitter and Haiku

leave a comment »

By now you’ve probably heard that Sun CEO Tweeted his resignation in Haiku. I figured I’d run with that emerging meme for a bit and offer the following:

  • There’s a Facebook group “dedicated to those elite few who attempt to Tweet in a Haiku format.”
  • Last, but certainly not least: In May 2009 Yoko Ono judged the first ever Twitter Haiku contest. The winner? Graphic Designer Simon Brake with the following: “Beneath the morning sun / The city is painted gold / People move like bees through honey”.

If I was artsy, I’d end with a clever haiku, but you already know the answer to that one.
